5.2 Labial Minor Salivary Gland Biopsy

The biopsy is usually taken through normal-appearing tissue of the inner aspect of the lower lip away from the midline. Minor glands are abundant in this region and can be sampled with minimal morbidity. A chalazion clamp holds the lower lip and surrounds the site. The minor gland lobules are prominent and can be removed intact. At least 6 lobules should be submitted for histopathological examination and grading.
