Chapter 21: Human Experimental Pain Models: Learning Objectives
        

Christian S. Stohler received dental and doctoral degrees from the School of Dental Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, University of Bern (Switzerland). He completed graduate clinical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery and prosthodontics at the University of Bern before joining the University of Michigan as a visiting faculty member. At Michigan, he was later promoted to associate professor, full professor, and Research Scientist, Center of Human Growth and Development, held the positions of Director of Research, School of Dentistry, and Chair of the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences, School of Dentistry. He was named the William R. Mann Professor of Dentistry, and the first Roy and Natalie Roberts Endowed Professor of Dentistry. In 2003, he was appointed Dean at the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Dental School. He is a former Councilor and President of IADR Neuroscience Group, and former President, Association of University TMD and Oral-Facial Pain Programs. He is a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Orofacial Pain. His research interest focuses on the pathogenesis of sensory, motor, autonomic, affective, and cognitive signs and symptoms caused by deep pain.
