The Gold Standard
of Research Design
Current research has
led to a consensus regarding certain aspects of the design of
major antiemetic studies (Morrow
et al., 1998).
- The optimum design
is a randomized, double-blind parallel arm design.
- The trial must have
adequate power to detect clinically meaningful differences.
- Previously identified
prognostic factors should be considered and properly accounted
for among the arms of the study.
- Adequately measured
primary and secondary end-points need to be clearly identified
in advance.
